P2: Autumn Senses Poems

The change in season recently provided an excellent opportunity for P2 to visit Hermitage Park to look for the first signs of autumn. P2 spent time exploring the park and also used moments of quiet and stillness to engage their senses. Once back in class, they spent time sharing some of the leaves, nuts and branches they had found. P2 then used the experience to write their first poem based on their five senses. Below you can see some of the photo highlights and some of their wonderful lines of poetry…

It is a cold season…

I see golden yellow leaves floating towards the crispy ground. (RP)
I hear the birds singing to everyone (DS)
I touch the sticky bark on my finger tips. (OC-S)
I smell fresh red berries on the trees. (IH)
I taste I taste hot chocolate with marvellous marshmallows. (LW)

Autumn spirits…

I see sap hardening in the crisp air (CP)
I hear the wind whistling through the branches of the tress and the birds singing to us. (BB)
I touch the red bumpy fire leaves. (GD)
I smell conker and acorn shells on the soggy ground. (RL)
I taste hot soup and and bread to warm my tummy. (CP)

The summer is over, now autumn is here…

I see a squirrel running up my leg – I had a nut in my hand (HN).
I hear the wind talking to us through the branches and the trees. (MA)
I touch the cold and crunchy air (SS)
I smell the nutty smell of chestnuts that have fallen off the tree. (EC)
I taste the sweet taste of the wind. (BS)
