The health and wellbeing curriculum is firmly embedded into the daily learning and teaching activities for our pupils throughout the session in Hermitage Primary School. Each year we celebrate this learning with a focus week.
Health Week once again arrived at Hermitage Primary School on the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th of February 2015. This week provides a focus on five aspects of a healthy lifestyle –exercise and sport, healthy eating, exercise through dance, meeting health experts and the benefits of relaxation.
The pupils enjoyed sessions from expert coaches and had the opportunity to try taster sessions in a variety of sports e.g. basketball, tae kwon do, athletics, shinty, table tennis, mini-kickers and judo. This year we had a several Commonwealth games table tennis players in the visiting coaching team. Mr Martin Caldwell, the local area active sports coordinator, was invaluable in supporting the input from these experts.
This year all stages had the opportunity to work with two street dance tutors, Mr and Mrs Joseph of ‘Urbaniks’. These sessions were very popular with all involved –staff too!!! Many and varied practical healthy eating experiences took place over the week. The school health team, including school nurse and oral health, were welcome visitors and contributors. The pupils also were made aware of the benefits of relaxation.
A good week was had by all and an enjoyable week to lead up to the half term break.
